Our Story

We started strong and we just keep on building

In 2018, farmers from the Upper Onny Valley met with representatives from Natural England, the National Trust and the Shropshire Hills National Landscape Partnership to discuss how farming and the local environment could be better supported through the Stepping Stones Project. The goal was to work together with landowners to restore the landscape's character and help increase wildlife typical of the Shropshire Hills. From that first meeting, the Upper Onny Farmers Group was formed. Since then, it has continued to grow in both membership and ambition. In 2025, the group took an important step forward by becoming a Community Interest Company (CIC), strengthening its ability to support both farming and nature into the future.

Where We Are, Who We Are  - Meet Our Farmers

We are a community of farmers rooted across the Upper Onny valley and beyond, each of us with a story to tell and land we’re proud to care for. Farming here isn’t just a job, it’s a way of life. It’s stewardship of soil, livestock, habitats, water, and generations of knowledge, all shaped by a deep connection to our neighbours and to the landscape we call home.

Explore our interactive map to meet the farmers behind the fields. Click on a marker to discover who we are, what we do, and how each of us plays a part in caring for this special corner of countryside.

With over 30 members in our group, we will be expanding our platform to include additional farms and comprehensive profiles that highlight the outstanding work of individual farmers. These features will showcase their dedication, innovation, and contributions to the agricultural community. We look forward to sharing their stories and recognizing their valuable impact.
